INTRODUCTION

Times have been tough for thousands of Nigerians who have either lost their jobs in the past decade or waiting endlessly for a job that may never come. Poverty at grassroots level is a sorry story as majority of the population has no means of sustainable livelihood.

There is rural exodus of youths. It is necessary to educate Nigerians that paid employment is no longer a REALITY in this country and that's the only way out is
SELF-EMPLOYMENT.(start a small business of your own) By so doing you take control of your worries, manage your destiny and provide security for your future.

Knowledge is only potential power says an adage and paves the road to RICHES. When you know which road to take, information brings transformation. If you are not informed you cannot be transformed. Enough information brings you to your destination. This equally confirmed in the scripture (Hosea 4:6).

Why we have large scale of unemployment in this country is because the country's unemployed is made up of young people who lack PRODUCTIVE & MARKETABLE SKILLS.

For investment to take place, there must be investment opportunity which could be a project. The purpose therefore for introducing any proposed project to the investing populace is to create the necessary & general AWARENESS of such projects in forms of technical feasibility, economic viability, market potentials etc.

The purpose of this paper is to educate, expose and give you the step by step guide on how to start GSM Recharge Cards vouchers production. You will be told all you need to know- project cost, raw materials, training, and equipments

THE PROJECT

With deregulation of the telecom industry, comes an assortment of options for Nigeria telecom consumers- prepaid phone cards represent a convenient way of placing local & internationals calls and provides big saving over traditional telephone lines.

With prepaid cards, you do not need ''IDD" facility on your phone. Prepaid Cards often offer much lower rates for calls than a telephone company's basic rates.

In recent times, the numbers of companies offering pre-paid Cards have grown considerably, and its use has gained popularity among consumers of telecommunications services

CARDS: Each Card has an access number printed on it. It has a "PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER" (PIN). Each time you use the card and the number you call answer, the duration of the call will be subtracted from the available minute on your card. You do not loose any units if your call is not answered. At the end of every call a computer will tell you how much time is left on your cards

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Ever before now, these cards are being printed abroad and imported into this However this ugly trend was stopped by the government by making it compulsory for all GSM to print their pre-paid calling cards here in the country. This has therefore opened another door of opportunities for Nigerians.

We have two types of pre-paid callings- plastic and paper by GSM service providers-MTN, CELTEL, GLOBACOM, STARCOMMS. The investment analysis in this paper is for the PAPER type of pre-paid vouchers. This is less expensive and doesn't include the procurement of sophisticated electronic and securing equipments.

A walk around some of our major cities one will see this type of paper pre-paid calling cards. It can be done new in the country with a small amount of money.

You can produce pre-paid calling cards of all GSM service providers.

a.         MTN.            N1,500, N750, N400, N200 & N100 respectively.

b.       CELTEL          N1,000, N500,N300, N200, &N100 respectively.

c.         GLO.              N3,000, N500, N300.N150 &N100 respectively.

d.         MTEL            N400.00

e.            STARCOMMS.  N1,000,  N500 & N250.

Individual as well as corporate body can legally print GSM vouchers without registering directly with the network service providers in the country.

There is a commission structure for all of them.
There are at least two options on how to start printing Recharge Card Vouchers with your name printed on each. The first option is by using franchised companies software with the aid of computer and printer. While the second option is the use of orange box.

WHAT EQUIPMENTS DO I NEED TO START THIS BUSINES?

1. You need to register with a dealer. This is absolutely free. What it entails is for you to be known to the dealer either by name or by other means of identification. They will have your email address and you will have their soft ware installed on your computer. Payments for PINS(vouchers are sold as PINS to sub-dealers who need to print them) will be made to the company's account number and accompanied by a text message stating how you want the PINS to be sent to you.

Example; send me MTN 100(100 PINS), I have paid to your account. VCL nig Ltd, My email is: sola@yahoo.com. Note that it is important you call the dealer to confirm if they have on ground what you intend to buy before going ahead to make payment into their account.

2. You need a computer with or without internet connection.

3. You will need a printer which can be either colored or black and white. You can go for any laser jet printer. Laser prints don't wash off easily as DeskJet prints do.

4.  A flash drive (USB) is also required. This is especially needed if you are not having personal internet connection. In other words, you need to go to cyber-cafes to copy the encrypted PINS to your e-mail box by your principal dealer.

5. You will need pre-printed papers: An example of this paper is the one shown to you at the training. Dealer will give you samples upon request. You can then give it to any printer to make copies for you. Plain papers can also be used instead of pre-print paper. The most important thing is to have clear prints.

Bulk order is very important in this business the minimum order placement you can make is 100 units of any voucher denomination you want. Dealers sell PINS in 100s. You can't pay and request to be sent MTN 100 (99PINS). Bit-by bit orders are not allowed but you can sell in bits to your customers.

Internet connection is required as PINS ordered for will only be sent through the internet. That is by email. If you have personal internet connection that is cool! If you do not, it is still ok, just that you will have to be visiting cybercafés occasionally to copy your PINS. An important point to note here is that you must avoid downloading your PINS into the computer at the café. Download into your flash disk and transfer to your business computer. This is to guide theft by anyone. Also ensure that your email password is very secure. If you don't have an email address, ask a family relative that you trust or friend to show you how to create one today.

EQUIPMENTS NEEDED TO START THE BUSINESS

1 Registration with a dealer: You need to register with a dealer either as a corporate body or an individual.

2. Computer and printer: a computer and a printer are needed for voucher printing business. With N25, 000 one can get a fairly used P111 or PIV computer with printer that will be suitable for the business.

3. E-mail address: your dealer will be sending you your encrypted PINS through your e-mail address.

4. Internet connection: this is optional because you can be using flash to download the PIN from cyber café.

5. Flash Drive (USB): if you are not connected to Internet, you will need to be using cyber café to copy the encrypted PINS to your flash from your e-mail address.

            RAW MATERIALS

The only raw material that you need for the production of vouchers is paper roll. A roll of paper can print about 150 vouchers. After your training on how to operate the orange Box, you will be giving 2 rolls of paper to start. You can the roll of paper from the designated places. Each of the paper roll cost about N75.00.

The machine (Orange Box) will keep record of daily sales made; time and serial numbers of voucher printed will also be recorded. The machine (Orange BOX) can print any network and each of the networks denominations has their own SECURITY code. Each network has its own network code.

After you must have taught on how to operate the orange box, you must start with a minimum of N5, 000 PIN.

On security which is the key issue in production of recharge cards, the machine has the necessary security details that will be known only to you after training.
